I’m Mike Boulette, the attorney and blogger behind Family-in-Law.
My Day Job.
I became an attorney because I like to solve problems. Hard problems. And I focus my practice on high-stakes divorce, custody and other family law matters so I can help my clients solve complex issues affecting the most important parts of their lives: their children, their families, and their financial security.
My clients are busy. They’re doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, executives, public figures, and successful professionals. They’re involved parents. They’re leaders in their communities. They hire me to help them take back control of their lives during difficult family changes so they can get back to doing what they love to do.
I’ve been lucky enough to be recognized for my work, including being named to the Super Lawyer’s Rising Star list, rated Superb by the legal-ranking site Avvo.com, and acknowledged as a North Star Lawyer for my work on behalf of low-income clients.
I really love the law (like, reading cases in my spare time love-the-law). So when I’m not helping clients, I spend much of my time teaching, writing and speaking on a variety of family law topics.
I regularly write and lecture on topics including marriage, divorce, and child custody, and author articles for local and national law journals in addition to this blog. (My work has even been cited by the Colorado Court of Appeals). I also teach family law to the next generation of lawyers as an adjunct professor for University of St. Thomas School of Law.
When the opportunity arises, I enjoy talking to the media about the intersection between families, relationships and the law, and I’ve been quoted in a variety of sources including the Star Tribune, the Fiscal Times, Forbes.com, and the Wall Street Journal to name a few.
If there’s still time left after all that, I’m likely bingeing on Netflix, or hiding from my toddler reading a too-thick biography of a 19th century tycoon.
